Chicago Boat Tours Aren’t Just for Out of Towners

Felix and Fingers Trump

The view from our pick-up location!

Chicago boat tours are a staple of Chicago tourism.  Out of owners often go on the architectural tours or other historical rides.  But these Chicago boat tours aren’t just of tourists.  They are often rented out of private parties, like the rehearsal dinner I played last week!

I’m on a Boat!

I’ve lived in Chicago for almost 13 years, and this was my first time riding on of the Chicago boat tours.  This particular company was Wendella Boats, and they know how to throw a party!  I arrived right when the boat was supposed to be back from is last public tour of the day.  I had a few of the more muscular looking guys help me quickly load my gear onto the top deck of the boat.  Due to the nature of Chicago boat tours schedules, I couldn’t get there my normally liberal two hours early.  I had exactly 15 minutes to set up the whole show.  I nailed it. 😉

The Versatility of Chicago Boat Tours

Once we were ready to go, the Captain asked the bride where she wanted to go.  She expected we’d just go up and down the Chicago River a few times, but he suggested we head out onto Lake Michigan for a bit first.  It was an excellent an idea.  There isn’t really a better view of Chicago and Navy Pier than watching it from out on the lake.

Everyone getting ready to party!

I started with some background music, but it wasn’t long before the guests wanted to start partying.  I was about three songs in when someone requests “Timber.”  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – Once you go Ke$ha, there’s no going back.  As far as Chicago boat tours go, I imagine this was one of the more unique!  Everyone wanted to dance, so I was playing everything from “California Love” to “Shut Up and Dance.”

It’s hard to imagine a better evening.  Stars in the sky, Chicago skyline brightly shining through the darkness, Lou Malnati’s Pizza, drinks with family and friends, and the awesome musical styling of Mike Sherman of Felix and Fingers!

Beautiful Day for Chicago Boat Tours

Chicago Boat Tours – Over, but not really…

The best part about the evening was that the Bride and Groom had also hired us to play their ceremony and cocktail hour the next night.  Greg was going to do that, but when they all left they were incredibly excited for the chance to experience Felix and Fingers two nights in a row!  Maybe if we’re lucky Greg will write about his experience the next night!

I had a blast working with Wendella Boats, one of many fabulous Chicago Boat Tours, especially tour guide Bob, who guarded my gear while I went to retrieve my car from Trump Towers!  If you’d like Felix and Fingers to play for you at any event, reach out to us today!  You won’t regret it!
