We can back up that the Gilmer’s Got Talent East Texas Yamboree fundraiser was a ton of fun! Gilmore, Texas worked hard to make this 83rd carnival, live music and Queen’s Coronation happen. We actually had a fantastic Elvis impersonator with synchronized backup dancers! East Gilmer has a little secret. It’s best known for being the birthplace of popular music singer Don Henley of the Eagles. Furthermore Johnny Mathis and a famous blues musician Freddie King have played the stage. We were proud to be part of this fundraiser. Our performers brought in tons of money for the Gilmer’s Got Talent East Texas Yamboree Fundraiser!

Our performers pulled up to an airplane hangar that had us thinking it was either a cathedral or church. In fact, this is the usual question from visitors when they catch a glimpse of the unique airplane hangar at the Gilmer-Upshur County Airport. Not only does this multi-use building house an operation base for Dean Lumber Company’s business aircraft, but is also home to the Flight of the Phoenix Aviation Museum. The museum also provides local school groups an opportunity to learn more about the diverse role that aviation plays in their daily lives. Clearly this airport hangar in Gilmore, TX is the secret spot for nightlife in east Texas. As a side note, Dean received the Texas Forestry Association Award for Best Design in Wood Buildings for 1997. We were, in fact, set up on an impressive stage that allowed us control of the crowd by interacting with song requests and a whole lot of karaoke. In all honesty, we’ve never heard such karaoke on point. Everyone sounded awesome. By the end of the first round of singing our tip jar was overflowing with happy singers. There were even a few Tammy Wynette song requests that brought our crowd out crooning Stand By Your Man. All in all, everyone sounded amazing.
Fantastic Memories and Tons of Money Raised
When all the donations, raffle tickets sold, and other monies were counted, it seemed like Katie had a very good chance at being the new Queen-Elect and Princess of 2020. Felix and Fingers wish Katie all the luck in the world for a win! Towards the end of our show, there was an adorable karaoke duet tribute to John Prine and Iris Dement. As a matter of fact, there was not at a dry eye in the house when we finished.
