So we did another wedding last weekend. AGAIN. Sheesh, it must be wedding season or something! Actually, in some ways, weddings are my personal favorite as far as events that we play. What’s not to love? There’s usually cake, great food, and the musicians are passable 😉 Weddings are also great because the reason everyone is gathered together is to celebrate (that kinda rhymed!), and that usually means a happy crowd for us, which never hurts our chances at knocking any show out of the park.

See! I told you there was cake!

The Onion Pub = Amazing Room!

This past weekend, we played at one of my all-time favorite venues, “The Onion Pub.” The room is gorgeous, and provides the perfect atmosphere for a classy, fun evening. The bride and groom actually got married in the same room as the reception (probably because it’s such a beautiful room!), which always makes for a smoother transition into cocktails. I’ve mentioned this before, but another favorite part of my job is the fact that we’re not ONLY a dueling pianos group, but we fairly often double as a jazz duo. I grew up with that stuff, and love that Frank Sinatra and Co. are still the standard when it comes to dinner music at a wedding. But enough about me! Let’s talk about the dueling! Which also includes me…so…

The dueling pianos portion of the evening is, of course, the highlight (other than the bride and groom). It’s also the most high-pressure part for us, but that’s part of what makes it fun. Sure, we have our standard songs that we know will always get requested, but there are really no two shows or audiences have ever been the same. There’s always some new surprise or challenge that calls us to react, some crazy bridal party that decides to start a conga line in the middle of a slow dance, or some dude that’s convinced he’s the best singer in the world and needs the mic to wow the room this very instant…and that’s fun for us 🙂 We get to roll with it, make it funny (hopefully!), and keep things entertaining.

What else can I say? The wedding was a smash hit. Everyone was dancing the whole night and had a wonderful time. We hope to be back to the Onion Pub again soon for another one! We love our jobs 🙂
