We do a ton of weddings, a lot of corporate events, and a good amount of fundraisers.  But Felix and Fingers doesn’t often get the chance to share our love of music in an educational setting.  At the Magee Elementary Fine Arts Day, that is what we were able to do and we loved every single minute.

Magee Elementary Fine Arts Day

We went to Waukesha, Wisconsin for the Magee Elementary Fine Arts Day.  Honestly, we felt incredibly honored to be part of such a great event.  The purpose of the day was to teach the young students about fine arts and also about careers in the fine arts.  Our Magee Elementary Fine Arts Day bongo playershow was the finale at the end of a day that included a bongo drummer, banjo players, dancers, and martial artists.  So they were already having a pretty good day by the time they settled in for our show.  We’re not sure who enjoyed our performance more, the teachers or the students.  We do know that we had a awesome time educating the children about what we love so much–music.  The kids were super inquisitive and had some great questions for us.  They wanted to know about all of the different places we travel to, if we like our jobs, and what a day in the life of a dueling pianist is like in general.  Their enthusiasm was contagious.  What an honor it was to be allowed into their school day and share our love of all things musical.

The Twist, Disney, and The Beatles

We began our performance/music lesson with a few sing-a-longs.  We then took requests and we were pretty impressed with what the students wanted to hear.  They asked for Billy Joel’s Piano Man (always a favorite), Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop Magee Elementary Fine Arts Day F & F on stageBelieving, and Ylvis’ What Does the Fox Say?  Have you heard this song yet?  It’s a blast to perform and the kids were super involved in that one.  We then surprised the teachers with a teacher Twist contest.  The teachers couldn’t say no with the loud and joyful encouragement they were hearing from the kids.  So they relented and participated in what we’re sure will become an annual tradition.

We had heard that the kids were right in the middle of rehearsing for a Disney concert.  Hence, we had to play a Disney mash up since no one knows more Disney songs than our performer, Mike Sherman.  Well maybe no one except the very enthusiastic boy from the third grade.  He was awesome!  We had their music teacher join us for the end of our set with a few songs from The Beatles.  It was easy to see how much the students love their teacher.  It was just a wonderful, wonderful day.
