As the cold weather as started to set in here in the great city of Chicago, I’ve found myself already looking back to the warm, wonderful, busy days of last summer, barely over, and I thought of my travels with Felix and Fingers. I just really love summer. #sorrynotsorry

In the month of August, Jim G. and myself got the opportunity to travel to the North Carolina on a gig. Anytime I can get to North Carolina, I say yes. I have family there, but also, it’s easily some of the most beautiful landscapes in the USA. We went, because Felix and Fingers got contracted by the University of North Carolina Charlotte to play a Dueling Pianos show opposite a live DJ for they’re first Freshman activities fair of the year.

#famous

#famous

First of all, being #famous has its perks. We had a backline company set up our gear for us, and the Student Union sound techs were there all night running our sound, so we looked, sounded, and (obviously) played amazingly all night long. AND, we were treated to dinner. What more can a hungry, working musician ask for?

I went to a small private college for my undergraduate work, and while I love the campus that I stayed on, it was hard not to be jealous of UNC Charlotte, and it’s beautiful facilities. Charlotte, NC is listed as one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the whole country actually, and the school is obviously experiencing similar growth. A student who was hosting us mentioned that they’ve built anywhere from 2-5 buildings in the 3 years he’s been there. Knowing this, we were still shocked to look at their student union.

Just......wow

Just……wow

This Is Real Life For Them…

Because it was a kind of “fair” where many organizations through the Student Union had booths, we were playing to an ever changing audience. We had a few people who were just taken with us, they pulled up chairs and hung out the majority of the night. Most though wandered around the rotunda, where they could do things like engrave a piece of plexiglass with anything they wanted for their dorms, or get custom foldable sunglasses, or face painting, or play life sized jenga. (We literally were terrified. This “game” was located about 10 feet away, and the pieces were all 1’X1’X3′)

Anytime you want us to come back to North Carolina, Felix and Fingers is ready! We had a great time at UNC, and we’d be more than happy to come make your event incredible!
