Not many individuals can say they were married at the Notre Dame Stadium, Meghan and Rory are some of the lucky few. The Downes Ballroom wedding event setup was in a gorgeous open space overlooking the 50 yard line! The view was simply stunning. It was FUN to see the newlywed’s names projected on big screens scrolling across the two sides of the field AND the jumbotron. SO COOL! The ceremony took place at the campus basilica. It was awesome to see service members line up and hold the traditional sabre arch for the bride and groom to walk under!
To start with, guests strolled into the ballroom to enjoy an unforgettable cocktail hour. Because the groom was a Marine Captain, there were many friends and family in uniform from all 5 branches of the military. There were also 4 additional Marine Captains in attendance that completed the officer program with the groom. In all honesty, this was a visually impressive event. The ambiance was perfect as guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and champagne toasts to songs such as How Sweet It Is by Marvin Gaye. A very sophisticated hour indeed!
A Unique and Elegant Wedding Affair
Instead of just being called to dinner, guests left cocktail hour after being signaled by a cousin who was in a kilt. He led everyone to their tables with an amazing bagpipe performance! We couldn’t be more impressed by this amazing change of events. Furthermore, University Catering provided a high-touch culinary dining experience for the Downes Ballroom wedding event, leaving everyone extremely satisfied with their meal.
The bride and groom desired something special for their first dance. We received a request to play Perfect Duet by Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé as the groom’s family performed the dance. They were great! After dinner we opened the dance floor and there wasn’t a single moment it wasn’t PACKED. Our transitions between songs were calculated and performed so that guests could dance continuously all night long. One bridesmaid came up and let us know her feet were on fire from SO MUCH DANCING. She looks forward to Felix and Fingers playing at her wedding in Texas next summer!
This was such a fun loving crowd. Duncan and Jim really knew how to get everyone on the floor with songs such as Baby Got Back by Mack Daddy. This group got a little wild when we hit the first few notes of Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson. Lots of great moves and always a favorite with our audience! Before we ended the gig, our performers played Piano Man by Billy Joel. We had everyone make a circle around the bride and groom to sing along to the last song of the night before their grand exit. A perfect ending to another Felix and Fingers successful event!
