Handwrytten - Felix And Fingers Dueling Pianos

Gig Score from player (1-5)2

This was a rough night… I will say that I think the audience enjoyed the show which is obviously the most important part- we got tons and tons of requests and people stuck around up until it started pouring and seemed to be having a blast.

The parts that frustrated me were all with my partner.

1. Kevin didn’t bring QR code papers for the Venmo requests like Fountain Square had requested which definitely cuts down on the amount of tips we make, creates a weird demand for us to go physically interact with people at the edge of the stage (which gets weird fast) bc the papers would just fly away if we didn’t, and frankly just makes us look unprofessional bc FS specifically asked for that. The song request papers were flying everywhere and were definitely littering the surrounding area.

2. He also didn’t have any song request sheets (neither did I, I am out of papers and didn’t think to bring any backup because I was planning on going digital like we have been here so I’m sorry about that!) so he opted to use song request sheets that had contact info and a business name for a completely different company which felt very tacky and disrespectful to Felix. (ohiocitypianos.com and clevelandkeys.com)

3. I personally think Kevin had too much to drink on stage and it really pissed me off that he allowed his very drunk friend to come up on stage in the middle of the show and have a little conversation during our first set? The sound guys weren’t irritated and not sure what to do and ultimately had to get in the guys face when he once again came up on stage during our break and tried to come back to talk to me? That made me extremely uncomfortable and I was so glad they made him leave the area.

4. I also just really don’t like Kevin’s overall vibe. Michael is a JOY onstage, Robert is insanely fun, Casey is an expert player/ entertainer, Duncan is amazing… literally everyone I have ever played with at Felix is just a class act and Kevin was so sarcastic and shitty toward the audience… making fun of people for not dancing and saying if they don’t cheer more than that he will just leave the stage? I know that I am not lead-player material at the moment but I try so hard and am learning so much playing alongside these amazing players and I have so much appreciation for this company allowing me the space to grow and I he truly felt like Kevin disrespected you guys tonight and didn’t represent the company very well.

5. Lastly, not having the drum feature on the keyboards really sucked. I have been working really hard on drumming and getting so much more comfortable with that and it was just such a bummer to not have that to help build the show intensity.

Sorry for the novel, that was just such a disappointing way to end that series for me. Thank you so much for giving me these amazing opportunities to learn and grow and perform!

QR codes printed for digital tipping and song requesting and maybe a strict no people can join you onstage rule because other people in the crowd get the wrong idea and it becomes a free for all too quickly.
