Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos made the trip to Traverse City Michigan for Hagerty’s holiday event, held for 800 people on the Northwestern Michigan College campus. As the first of a three day tour, Dave and I were ready to hit the ground running after our 7 hour drive through Michigan with our new piano trailer! Let the Christmas events begin!

The theme of the event was prohibition era / roaring 20’s and our hosts from Hagerty did a great job decorating for the theme. From illustrious crystal chandeliers, to the costumes, to the speakeasy upstairs, to the CEO dressed up as a prisoner in jail at the front door – we knew that this was going to be a great event for a Thursday night.
Obviously the 20’s didn’t have electric keyboards, so we brought our piano trailer and were able to set up our shells on stage to add to the look of the event. As people entered the main hall, we began the show with some old classics like “Five foot two”, “Blue Skies” and even “The Entertainer” (or theme from the movie “The Sting”). This brought me back to the old days playing at The Baker House in Lake Geneva when I was tasked with not playing anything after the 1930’s.
Ready to Rock
After cocktails and dinner, the CEO McKeel gave a welcome and we took the stage for dueling pianos. The Dueling show quickly transitioned from oldies to rock and roll to “Baby got Back” as we challenged the audience to sing and dance. We were tasked with keeping the party rocking all the way to the wee hours of…9pm (it was a Thursday night after all!). The early end time though was nice so that we could get on the road and start making our way towards our next corporate event in Decatur IL. After a few hours of driving we found a hotel in Holland.
The Piano Tour
Traverse City was the first of three corporate events that had Dave and I traveling over 24 hours in 4 days. While the rest of the company was spread across the Midwest, we had the challenge of traveling from Chicago to Traverse City, to Decatur IL, to Cincinnati Ohio for a string of corporate events. In tow was Audrey, our new Piano Shell trailer (who will soon have a post of her own!). This was the furthest that we had ever traveled with the piano shells, but am glad to report that we had no major issues – knock on wood!
