Felix and Fingers had the opportunity to return to this venue for the second year in a row out in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. The Dousman House Party
The Dousman House used to be an old hotel, located directly on the Mississippi River on the border of Wisconsin and Iowa. It has now been transformed into a rustic event space with gorgeous iron trusses and taxidermy-a-plenty.The Dousman House was a hotel from the late 19th century. At this venue, Crossing Rivers Health hired us for the second time for their annual party, so it was great to see familiar faces. It really is a huge compliment when a client brings you back for the second year of holiday cheer and great music.
The party served guests a wonderful dinner and held an awards ceremony beforehand for employees at the company. They held this ceremony to honor employees’ years of service and dedication. To begin, the company gave plaques for anywhere between 5 and 40 years of service. Many people who had worked at the company the longest received standing ovations. Additionally, Jim had a wireless mixer, so during the awards ceremony, he could fade the volume in and out, as someone walked up to the stage. It was a nice effect and made us feel like we were watching the Oscars.
Music and Dancing
Since it had been the second year with this group, guests made more requests than they did the year before. As well, we brought up some familiar faces to be on stage with us or play some of our typical games that we like to use to interact with the crowd more. One of our favorite things to do is bring a couple of ladies on the stage to dance to “Baby Got Back” (without their prior knowledge). It went over quite well, and the entire room began to cheer on our very gracious volunteers.
Later, I had a request for You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone. I played one verse and chorus and then asked the group who requested it, if they were just testing us to see if we’d play it and they said yes, of course. No problem! We love silly challenges! We really enjoyed performing for this group and for another Dousman House party. We hope to be back again next year!
