Felix and Fingers had a great time performing at a Lone Star Lodge surprise birthday party! The birthday boy, Bruce, was turning 50 years young and his sneaky friends couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate. The Lone Star Lodge and Marina is situated on a ridge overlooking a gorgeous lake. The views near sunset were almost too beautiful to turn away from, but the inside was just as pleasing. The staff went out of their way to decorate for the festivities. If you’d like to learn how to set up your own celebration or special event at Lone Star Lodge, click here for more info!

When the birthday boy arrived, everyone jumped out of their hiding places but us. We’d already positioned ourselves to go right into Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing as everyone shouted “Surprise!” It was a great moment even though Bruce almost fell over from shock. As you probably already know, 50 years is said to be the golden anniversary and Bruce’s birthday party ran with that theme. Golden Champaign and amber ales were flowing. There was a delicious corn chowder too, but dessert was our favorite–probably the best carrot cake we’d ever eaten! Luckily there was enough for us to snag a second slice.

Bruce and the rest of the party-goers were huge fans of 80s and 90s music. Since we started with Journey, it wasn’t very surprising that we received a lot of classic rock requests. What was unexpected was that we got just about as much hip hop requests. Gin and Juice by Snoop Dogg and Big Poppa by The Notorious B.I.G. were really popular as was Blackstreet’s No Diggity. The best part of the night, without question, was when Bruce expertly helped us sing Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise. We hope we can all be half as good at rapping when we’re 50!
