West Chicago Party, Felix and Fingers Style
To start, I must describe in detail the Ball Horticultural Company and the venue they have. When I first show up to a gig, usually my time consists of set up but the immensity of the room made me pause and stare. There are windows, from floor to ceiling, overlooking manicured grounds, with a large second floor full of windows, even the winter sun successfully lit the room. Looking out the window, snow had just fallen and the venue was perfectly back dropped by West Chicago, draped in white.
The room was impressive, setting up on stage with two Christmas trees and garland was draped around the room. The room was set up immaculately and makes for a classy venue conveniently located in West Chicago.
Good Music and Britney Spears
As guests began arriving, we warmed up our fingers, feeling energized by the crowd. Starting slowly, we quickly built up to the classics, getting everyone moving. I really enjoy the work I do, being the entertainment for the night gives me the responsibility to ensure everyone is having fun. Company parties, like this event, are much different than a wedding but the same motivation holds true, find a way to connect with the room. When it comes down to it, people always want to have a good time.
As the night went on, I took a break to grab a bite to eat. Planted on tables throughout the space were incredible hor d’oeuvres, perfect for a hungry musician. Everyone was enjoying themselves and after a quick recharge, I was ready to take the stage once more.
Usually, for corporate events, we like to play it safe with the music choice. But as we got comfortable it became clear the crowd wanted to hear some more modern hits. We received the request for Britney Spear’s “Baby, One More Time” and we brought the house down. Playing a pop music classic on two classic pianos ended the night on a high note!
