Saint Sophia Greek Fest Fundraiser Elgin Illinois

Saint Sophia Greek Fest FundraiserA family fun day can be an easy way to raise money for your church while bringing your congregation and community together. This year at Greek Fest, Felix and Fingers helped raise renovation funds for Saint Sophia’s Greek Church located in Elgin, Illinois. Our performers for the Saint Sophia Greek Fest fundraiser were Greg Percifield and Jim Gritschke.

For a start, we’d like you to know our client was graciously accommodating, they continuously brought us food and drink throughout the night. We greatly appreciate everyone that looked out for us in the heat. The Holy Orthodox Church of Saint Sophia is a community of Orthodox Christians who praise God with all their hearts. They seek to love their neighbors as themselves. Therefore, they invite all Orthodox Christians to become stewards of Saint Sophia and welcome you to click here and learn more about their ministry.

To start with, this was Felix and Fingers first time performing at Greek Fest. There were many activities to enjoy such as tents for food/drink and tons of games for all ages. If you’re into shopping, vendors displayed their arts and crafts in tents surrounding the Saint Sophia Greek Fest fundraiser event. An all ages extravaganza!

The Saint Sophia Greek Fest fundraiser had us set up on a centrally located raised stage. Even through this was a traditional Greek Fest, we were lucky enough not to have many Greek songs to play. Neither Greg of Jim speak Greek so that would have be fun HAHA! Instead, we played tons of pop hits such as Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson keeping the crowd dancing and donating. Furthermore, there was a dance troupe of teens that performed traditional Greek dances for everyone to enjoy during intermission. We loved seeing all the colorful traditional costumes!

Great Food and Amazing Culture

Saint Sophia Greek Fest FundraiserThe staff at the Saint Sophia Greek Fest fundraiser were nice enough to let us sample some of their amazing food. As a matter of fact, the fried smelt, gyros and pastichio were DELICIOUS. Felix and Fingers LOVED the homemade loukoumades, a traditional Greek donut hole dipped in honey and nuts. Best sticky dessert ever. Greg and Jim played song requests such as The Greeks Don’t Want No Freaks by The Eagles bringing in a solid $300 towards the fundraiser!

Greg and Jim held an impressive fundraiser shedding light on an important cause and prompted tons of people to donate. One big money maker was a rendition of Piano Man by Billy Joel. Our performers brought a few hundred guests together in a big circle to sing at the tops of their lungs. We LOVED watching our tip jars overflow with donations after that fun stint!

The best part about the Saint Sophia Greek Fest fundraiser was seeing the sense of pride in home and culture. To be honest, watching the crowd take shots of ouzo and yelling Opa! really brought it all together. Above all, Felix and Fingers played their hearts out to a fun loving group of all ages. We really didn’t know any songs about Greece in particular, but we did know Greased Lightning, a song from the musical Grease! During the festival, our performers prompted guests to take a tour of Saint Sophia. All proceeds from the tour went towards the Saint Sophia Greek Fest fundraiser.

Saganaki and Ouzo. What else can we say? Delicious! Felix and Fingers would like you to know the Saint Sophia Greek Festival fundraiser was a HUGE success. Our performers worked hard and raised funds for a great cause! We loved seeing everyone have a great time. Lastly, we had to grab a bag of koulourakia, an extremely popular Greek cookie before going home. They taste like tiny crunchy little butter cookies. More importantly, the cookies never made it home, they were devoured in the car!
