Felix and Fingers returned to Crystal Lake’s Park Place in September to play a wedding reception for a couple who had been married in Iowa the week before.  This actually isn’t too unusual for us, because many couples do ask us to perform at receptions for weddings they’d already had somewhere relatively far away.  I will say, this may be the closest second reception to the location of the original, but it made sense immediately when we got there.  This family just had that many people who wanted to celebrate with the happy couple, and the mother of the groom was more than willing to make sure their Crystal Lake area friends and family got their reception, too.

The Very Versatile Park Place

Felix and Fingers is no stranger to Park Place!  We’ve been back multiple times, one of our members actually had his own wedding reception there, and personally this was my third time playing at Park Place in Crystal Lake in a year!  It always amazes me how well they’re able to transform their beautiful ballroom.  The first time I played there, it was for a corporate event, and they transformed the room into a classy place to have a nice end-of-the-year party.  The next time was for a bridal expo, and I was shocked at how many vendors fit comfortably in there to show what they had to offer for the guests!  That one was a lot of fun because it was open to anyone who wanted to register, and there were fun events, fashion shows on their stage, and raffle prizes going on all day!  (In case you’re thinking, “boy, I wish I’d been there!” you can register for the 2015 Bridal Fair in Crystal Lake scheduled for 3/8/15 here.)

A Reception to Remember

This time though, we were here to entertain the friends and family of some very happy newlyweds, and of course the Park Place did not disappoint.  We arrived to see the whole place already decorated with adorable rustic decor, some of the family’s touches (like a map of the country showing how the bride and groom came to meet!) and an absolutely gorgeous ballroom tailor-made for a night of fun.  Boy, was this group in for a LOT of fun!  We started the night with a “first dance” for the bride and groom, which was really special for these guests who hadn’t been there the previous week.  Then came the mother son dance, which started as a slow dance, and ended with a sassy rendition of “Respect” by Aretha Franklin.  It was a great way to kick off the evening!  Taking cues from that dance, guests quickly started making their requests to our dueling show to make sure the dancing kept going all night.  Let’s just say the Park Place was rocking that night!
