Headquartered in Chicagoland, it always makes us happy to attend a Crystal Lake party. Some of the nicest folks in the country call this Northwest suburb home. Going into the event, we knew it we would be surrounded by good company.

The party was being held as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. The venue for the evening was Conscious Cup.The after hours coffee house proved to be a sweet space. The tables and chairs were put into storage, opening up a dance floor.

Guests started to arrive and the party kicked off quickly. Being in December, the event was naturally holiday-themed. There was also an ugly sweater mandatory dress code. Lucky my partner and I got the memo for the sweaters and we were decked out in our holiday worst. It was a diverse crowd and one that our music quickly got moving. The wide open floor of the venue was soon packed with dancers.Keeping to the holiday theme, we rocked the house. We have some renditions of Jingle Bells that will make even the biggest music critic tap their feet.

Local athletes were given a platform to talk about their experiences. Listening to the dedication and passion exhibited was inspiring. The Special Olympics are the bedrock of entire communities. One of the athletes began to thank everyone in the room for supporting the cause. There was not a dry eye in the place by the time he finished talking. Being on stage and entertaining a group of such amazing people was a privilege.

One of the sponsors was Crystal Lake Brewing. If beer is your thing, I recommend trying one of their drafts. In conjunction with Conscious Cup, they brewed a coffee stout. Even though I was working, I still managed to grab a sip, and it was phenomenal.

All told, it was a great night, we raised a lot of money, and the crowd was fantastic to be around.
