I know.  That’s a highly original title for a blog.  I was up all night working on various phrasings for it.  🙂

The Ritz-Carlton Chicago

When you think of the Ritz-Carlton Chicago, or any Ritz-Carlton for that matter, you imagine a lot of elegance and sophistication.  That was exactly what we found, in addition to tons of professionalism.  The staff there was top notch.  Everyone from the hospitality staff, to the A/V techs, to the cleaning crew were constantly offering help.  The Ritz-Carlton Chicago know that it’s guests expect a high level of service and they delivered!

The Ritz-Carlton Chicago Brings the World Together

Well, that might be saying a lot, but we definitely had people from all corners of Earth at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago.  The Bride was from Taiwan and the Groom was from Canada.  In addition to friends and family from there, we had guests from Europe, China, Japan, and at least two other countries I’m not remembering.  It was so cool seeing people from so many different cultures and countries all coming together to celebrate.  Music really does bring people together, because at the end of the night when we played “Piano Man,” every single person in that room was on the dance floor.

Master of Ceremonies at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago

As I mentioned, the groom was from Canada.  They do something a little different in Canada when it comes to the emcee of the evening.  When I spoke with the groom on the phone before the wedding, he told me that a friend of his was going to do it.  We typically emcee ourselves at our weddings, but on occasion someone else does it.  I asked if the friend was a professional emcee, and he said no.  He told me that in Canada, it’s typical for a friend of the bride and groom to act as Master of Ceremonies.  I hadn’t heard of this before, but it was definitely something interesting!  We were still watching everything to make sure nothing got missed, but his friend did a great job!

Another highlight of the evening was when the brides parents spoke.  They were from Taiwan, so when they gave their speech, a power point presentation played behind them, translating everything they said while also haring some pictures of the bride and groom.  I’ve seen translators before at weddings, but this was a cool, modern way to translate all of their kind words.

The Ritz-Carlton Chicago Does it Right

Ritz-Carlton Chicago Set-up

One thing that made the evening amazing was the room itself.  The Grand Ballroom at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago was one of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever played in.  The ceiling had hundreds of crystal fixtures dangling from above.  Once it got dark enough outside, they opened the curtains for a beautiful view of downtown Chicago.  The ambiance was such a big factor in the success of the evening.
