It is finally that time of year here in the Midwest where the winds turn sharp and the air becomes dry.  We always ask for that cool temperature and white snow at the end of Summer, and boy did it hit us!  So let’s take a jump back into Summer real quick and live vicariously through the images of the astonishing Ewing Manor in Bloomington, IL.  Built in 1929 and based on architecture from a couple’s trip around the world, it really does take you on a worldwide adventure.  This place couldn’t be any more suited for a classy, outdoor wedding in the Summer months of the Midwest.  The property boasts a long gated driveway entrance up through the middle of the manor straight into the courtyard, which was perfectly poised for the cocktail hour played by Felix and Fingers (Greg and myself).  We were able to set up our pianos right inside of an open garage that overlooked the cobble-stoned courtyard and the well dressed guests of the wedding.

Scotland Calls All of Ewing Manor to Attention

Before long it was time to make our way to our 2nd location, the North Lawn of Ewing Manor, to commence the ceremony for Tom & Allie to tie the proverbial knot.  Guests took their seats in the Summer sun to the ancient cries of a kilted Scottish bagpiper echoing long hums across the entire estate.  While the ceremony was happening, Greg went to set up at our THIRD location for dinner and ultimately the infamous Dueling Pianos show we’ve come to know and love with Felix and Fingers.  Luckily the ceremony didn’t last too long so that the guests (and our speakers!) had a break from the open sun!

Announcements, followed by the introductions of our VIP’s and guests of Honor, a fully catered dinner began outdoors on the front lawn under a clear tent with a great view of everything around us.  Being on the grounds of the Ewing Manor and Cultural Center made you feel like you were dining with nobles  in 19th Century Western Europe.  But it ingeniously transitions to the carefully manicured Japanese style zen gardens should you wish to take a quiet stroll away from the excitement.  Get all the peace and quiet you can get, for all roads lead back to the party! Everything went off without a hitch; the special dances, hula hoop contest, and the crowd getting jiggy with it all night long.  It’s hard NOT to say this about almost every venue we play, but the Ewing Manor is definitely one of my favorite venues to have played a wedding.  Any place that can transport you across the wold and across time from your own backyard is worthy of being named the best.
