Felix and Fingers recently dueled for a Massena Fire Department dinner. This event fundraised for the Massena all-volunteer Fire Department, which serves a small town of about 300 people. To contact them or for more information, please click here.
Massena Fire Department Dinner
This dinner was held at the fire station, which is a large garage-esque building with a kitchen in the back. The layout is simple for maximum efficiency. It was evident that these volunteer firefighters love their home base through the stories they told. The evening kicked off with a delicious dinner of home-cooked prime rib, green bean casserole, rolls, and mashed potatoes. We were impressed by the amount of food made for this dinner: huge cuts of prime rib and large servings of casserole. Our taste buds were treated well!
Volunteers and Patriots
Once dinner was finished, we began our set. Due to the amount of great requests, we played for about three hours, even after the event was set to end! it was so nice to feel wanted by these volunteers and the community. The biggest hits with the crowd were patriotic, rock n’ roll, and country songs. Everyone was out on the dance floor, and we even had a bunch of people come sing with us on stage. For extra donations, the firefighters came up on stage to sing or do interactive dances. One firefighter was nicknamed, “sweetnutz,” which made for some hilarious jokes between us and the firefighters.
We finished the evening with the dance floor packed and everyone singing along. The fundraiser was a success, and we donated any tips we received back to the fire department for the good work they do. We loved our time with this crowd and hope to be invited back again!
