AT&T Michigan Avenue and their Journey of Innovation!
Come here. Â I want you. Â Nah… just kidding. Â But those words have a special significance if you work for the AT&T Michigan Avenue store. Â They were the first words spoken by Alexander Graham Bell on the first phone call in Chicago 139 years ago. Â “Come here. Â I want you.”
AT&T Michigan Avenue hosted a special celebration commemorating those words on the 139 year anniversary. Â They called it a Journey of Innovation. Â It was a new, cutting edge experimental environment showcasing AT&T’s journey through the past, the present, and into the future! Â They encouraged people off the street to come in and look at what I can only describe as a telephone museum. Â This was just during regular business hours at the AT&T Michigan Avenue Store. Â People would walk in, probably to look at a new cell phone plan, and would be happily surprised to see an unexpected exhibit! Â On top of everything, the staff at AT&T Michigan Ave were giving away prizes to guests who stopped by. Â They also supplied hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Â It definitely surprised a lot of people.
The Journey of Innovation at AT&T Michigan Avenue highlighted several milestones within AT&T’s journey such as the first cellular phone call which took place at Soldier Field in Chicago. The area also shered AT&T’s role in Chicago lives and communities including the It Can Wait movement.  This was incredibly cool.  You walked up to a digital wall and put your hand against it.  It copied your handprint onto the wall, and it acted as a signature.  You were basically saying “I won’t text while I drive.  IT CAN WAIT.”  Lot’s of people participated, and I hope it had a positive effect on their texting practices.
What did Felix do there?
When I arrived (as the featured entertainment) I was handed a sheet of “talking points” to
discuss in between songs. Â This was, of course, no problem. Â At Felix and Fingers, we’re all trained as emcee’s, and we love the chance to banter with the crowd! Â Not only did I get to fill people in about the historical aspect of the exhibits, but I was also reminding everyone about the free prize giveaways. Â If you tweeted at AT&T Michigan Avenue, you were entered for a chance to win some pretty nice speakers.
For the most part, I keep it chill, playing jazz and some lighter pop. Â I did get a few requests from the staff of the AT&T Michigan Avenue Store, including K-Ci and Jo-Jo, and even a few Disney songs. Â (If you follow my musical career at all, you know I’m a big Disney dork.)
It ended up being a pretty cool event. Â On my breaks I was able to walk around and see some of the exhibits, and it was very well done! Â I wonder if these AT&T Michigan Avenue exhibits will end up in an actual museum.
Felix and Fingers specialize in all types of events including weddings, corporate events, private parties, and apparently 1 day museums. Â Get in touch with us if you’d like to have us at your next event!
