Recently, Robert and I made a trip up to Appleton, WI for a large January wedding.  When we arrived at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, we didn’t know what to expect, just like with any new venue.  We were met not only with an amazing space (which easily accommodated their more than 400 guests,) but some of the friendliest staff I’ve ever met!

Road Trip!!

The Radisson Paper Valley is about a 3-hour drive for us, which in the scheme of things, is definitely on the shorter end of drives we’ve done for weddings!  The snow, however, can sometimes be unkind to traveling musicians with things like loading equipment, so we made sure to leave extra early to make sure we had plenty of time to set up before the reception.  We didn’t hardly even need it!  As soon as we pulled up to the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, the staff was so helpful in offering carts and showing us where to set up, and the reception hall was already completely ready for us hours before the start time!  They kept checking in with us to see if we needed anything, too.

Car at Radisson Paper Valley

Even though we are pretty self-sufficient with our own power and things of that nature, it is just really nice to be around people who care about the whole event they’re putting on.  Teamwork makes for the best shows!  On our last trip to the car, the mother of the groom happened to pull up behind us, thrilled that we’d made it!  (As if just about anything would keep us from getting to one of our beloved weddings!!)  We knew very early in the day that this was going to be a special one.  Nothing warms you up on a chilly day faster than friendly faces!

Radisson Paper Valley

The lobby at the Radisson Paper Valley was so impressive, it accommodated the whole of the wedding guests before the reception started for a cocktail hour at one of their many facilities within the hotel.  The Orchard Cafe was reminiscent of an outdoor patio, and offered a quaint space for a large quantity of guests to enjoy drinks before the reception.  You would think with that many people in the lobby, there wouldn’t be much elbow room, but no!  There was still ample space for probably thousands more, and even a few more watering holes in the lobby including a sports bar and cocktail lounge!

Radisson Paper Valley Dance Floor

By the end of the night, the Radisson Paper Valley was filled with some happy (and very energetic!) wedding guests.  Even after hours of dueling and dancing, at the end of the night there were still probably 80 people on the dance floor!  As impressive as their inner will to dance was, the thing I’ll remember most about that trip to Appleton was just how darn friendly everyone was.  In a group that size, it’s hard to imagine that every single person- guest and staff- would greet you with a smile, but that day at the Radisson Paper Valley, we didn’t have to imagine it 🙂
