Recently Felix and Fingers (actually Felix & The Fox) was invited to play for the annual holiday party for Kegel Harley Davidson in Rockford, IL, one of the longest family-owned dealerships in America. They had recently celebrated over 100 years of service to Harley Davidson customers and enthusiasts. Around 250 family members, friends, and employees attended the event along with no shortage of motorcycles, despite the bone-chilling temperatures. As usual, requests were being taken from all sides of the spectrum. Everything from the Eagles, Beach Boys, and Blake Shelton, to Justin Timberlake and Carly Rae Jepsen! During the night, there was even a short presentation where the sales team drove into the showroom on the dealership’s new bikes. It got a little loud with the roar of the engines and everyone cheering.
Here’s a short story for you. As most Harley enthusiasts are aware, the term “Fatboy” goes hand in hand with one of Harley’s famous lines of motorcycle. Since my grandfather’s time, the men in my family have held the nickname of “Fatboy.” My grandfather and uncle, my father, and now me. When I was about 7 years old, my uncle gave me a FATBOY Harley Davidson license plate for Christmas. They thought it was funny and clever. Myself on the other hand, I would have been happier with some Hot Wheels cars. Over the years I understood the importance of the name and our “tradition.” When I heard I was going to be playing for a Harley dealership, I knew I had to throw on a bright orange shirt and bring that license plate a long with me. The one you see in the picture is the same one I’ve had for almost 15 years!
It was such a blast to play for all of these people who came all the way to Rockford to celebrate with Kegel Harley Davidson. The part I like best about Dueling Pianos is that we get to get out of the background and interact with everyone who comes to party. We always get the opportunity to make new friends and new memories for people and it’s quite a rewarding experience. The owners were even kind enough to give us an old-school centerpiece for our signature ‘V’ configuration.
