Will Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos travel?  Absolutely!  This weekend brought the Chicago dueling pianos show all the way south to Paducah KY for what was sure to be a great night of wedding entertainment.

From Chicago (or our location in the northwest suburbs), Paducah is approximately a 6+ hour drive.  Due to the time frame and our requirement to be back in Chicago for a wedding the following morning, we had hired a driver to get us back home overnight.  This is an option we’ve used a number of times in the past for our distance weddings and it’s always nice to have a third person in the car (sorry Felix!).

First Dance at Walker Hall

Bride/Groom First Dance

The wedding reception was held at Walker Hall in Paducah, and this place was made for entertainment, literally!  One of the staff had told me a story about the venue being built by the wealthy Walker family because there wasn’t a near by location for them to ballroom dance.  The venue was constructed to be a high end ballroom for the family and their friends, and I’m sure many nights were danced away.  Ownership has since changed, but Walker Hall continues to be host to all the Paducah area events.  With a huge wooden dance floor, open seating area, surround sound speaker system, and even a stage for a live band (or dueling pianos group!), Walker Hall was great.  Oh, and they even had a gigantic mirror ball hanging from the ceiling.  Sure, mirror balls are dated and people might roll their eyes, but this one was huge!  Once you start that thing spinning and get some lights on it you see exactly why this is the venue to throw a party!

Another great Dueling Pianos wedding

I don’t know that there’s too much to report back about the wedding itself.  The bride was gorgeous, the food delicious, the dance floor dancing…wish you were there!  One of the funniest moments was during the cowbell competition when the contestant decided to throw his drum stick up to the ceiling.  Unfortunately, it never came back down.  Walker Hall will forever have an F&F drumstick laying on one of the lateral support beams…maybe it’ll be worth money some day?

After the crowds dispersed, we had an opportunity to hang out with the staff and chat about the venue.  Let me say the the owners and staff couldn’t have been more friendly or hospitable, it was truly a pleasure getting to speak with them while we waited for our driver to meet us at the venue.  In a world of gigantic “wedding mill” type venues, it’s nice to find the owner-operated venues where the entire team is down to Earth.  When planning a wedding, there’s nothing more important than feeling like your team of planners cares about you and your day, and that rang out true at Walker Hall.   I look forward to our next opportunity to play another event in Paducah!
