Laissez les bon temps rouler – “Let the good times roll!” – is New Orleans’ motto and we returned to do just that for the Bayou Mardi Gras Association fundraiser event. This year’s theme was “Bourbon Street on the Bayou” held at the Bayou Teche Trading Company located in New Iberia, Louisiana. Representing Felix and Fingers for this special charity event were our amazing performers Amy Laemmli and Nate Sangsland. Over the years, this event has quickly grown in popularity and community support. Therefore, we are PROUD to say we helped raised a TON of money for a great cause!
Bayou Mardi Gras Association Fundraiser Event New Iberia
The Bayou Mardis Gras Association made this fundraiser possible by everyone who give their time, money, goods and services. This amazing association makes it possible to hold this fundraiser and to contribute to a great historical cause. When New Iberia’s own Mardi Gras parade was discontinued, a group of civic leaders came together and successfully brought this parade back to the historic streets of downtown New Iberia.
Not only does this association work hard to keep bringing back this family celebration, but their passion attracts tourism to Iberia Parish. To start with, we arrived to play a 4 hour gig at a cool converted warehouse called Bayou Teche Trading Company. This awesome venue will comfortably accommodate up to 240 guests with the bonus of an outside gazebo and patio. Bayou Teche Trading Company offers on site BBQ and boiling equipment making sure your guests are well fed. In fact, Bayou Teche Trading Company is New Iberia’s newest performance & event venue. Town Leaders and Mascots
Since the purpose of the Bayou Mardi Gras Association Fundraiser event was to raise money for the local Mardi Gras festival, there was a wide demographic of guests in attendance. For example, there was tons of town leadership present such as the mayor, sheriff and other local officials. Felix and Fingers raised a good amount of money just through their tips for songs.
During cocktail hour, everyone got into the swing of things with fun song requests. For example, songs such as High Society by The Muskrat Ramblers and Ida by Al Hirt had guests taking a spin on the floor. We also bridged dinner by helping out announcing in a live auction for the more expensive items, while silent auctions items were placed on tables with bid sheets. As a matter of fact, Amy and Nate encouraged everyone to bid early and often. And because fundraising is sweet, playing Sugar by Maroon 5 and Chocolate by 1975 was a hit with our crowd!
An exciting highlight of the evening was a chance to name the new alligator mascot. Everyone had a blast submitting their ideas and the winning name was…Jackamo! This crowd opened up quickly to our performers interactive show. We were able to split the room and suggest Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen for a sing off. The whole room sang SO LOUD it echoed through the corridors of New Iberia! It got a little crazy after that. A rowdy kick line started to Shout it Out by Vertical Worship, and a CRAZY 50 person Conga line made this gig a success!
