Felix and Fingers recently played at a Mahaska Hospice fundraiser. A father, his daughters, and his son hosted this event in honor of someone they love. This was held at Debbie’s Celebration Barn in Oskaloosa, IA. For information on Mahaska Hospice, please visit their website.
Mahaska Hospice Fundraiser
Debbie’s Celebration Barn, a 44-year-old quonset hut structure, is the site for many weddings, graduation parties, wine tastings, and other large events for the Oskaloosa community. People travel for miles for this beautiful 3-and-a-half acre slice of deep green hills and picturesque shade trees. Having hosted so many events where a stage is requested, one of the staff members told us that they are even considering adding a stage and lights. For the Mahaska Hospice fundraiser, staff decorated the barn with white Christmas lights and large white drapes across the domed ceiling. They set tables with crisp white linens and plates. A delicious dinner was served by some of the kindest waitstaff we’ve ever had the pleasure of working with, and the fundraising began shortly after.
So You Think You Can Dance
Once the fundraising started winding down, we took to our pianos. We began our set, and shortly into it, we brought up the four host children for a dance off. This was a hit with the crowd, and we raised around $400 more for Mahaska Hospice. Throughout the evening, we had requests for sentimental songs as well as country and top 40 hits. One couple, when requesting a song, even hinted at wanting to book us for their wedding. We also ran into the father of a bride we recently had the pleasure of playing for. How cool is that?
Overall, the evening was a success. The fundraiser went well, and we were able to add over $2,500 to their donation from our tips. These guests were so giving, and we thank everyone for such a great night.
