dueling pianos at Grand HotelAs I often write, all of our shows are unique. They are tailored to the audience, whether it be a private party, a public show, or a corporate event such as the one held by North Central Companies at the Grand Hotel.

If you are an avid reader of our blogs, you might share a deeper perspective of what we do and how we entertain. Yes, some things stay the same. We play songs, we get people laughing and dancing, we play some games. So you might be wondering, how then, are these events so unique? It’s a combination of things. The venue and the people. The song requests and the occasion.

And while you might hear about how often “Don’t Stop Believin'” may get requested, you probably hear less about the abundance of odd songs that come in. Watching Felix jam out to “Holiday In Cambodia” is certainly a unique experience. Regretfully, that song was not requested this night. But it has been done and there was certainly something striking about the North Central Companies group, and that was how diverse they were in personalities and song selections. It was a night to expect the unexpected.

Looking around the room, there was the bar crowd, who stood a bit passively, talking with their friends, but occasionally running up to the stage to give us a request. Further back, there was the group that seemed perfectly content to stay seated at their tables, yet they sang along to almost every single song. Then there was the group that stayed on the dance floor all night. Displaying not only dance moves but somewhat of a gymnastic-like ability to get down to the groove. When I saw the host of the party being flipped over the shoulder of the man she was dancing with, I knew that we finally found our stride in song selections.

North Central Companies Likes To Twist The Night Away

Yes, we’ll take requests, but occasionally, if we see a clear opportunity to strengthen the direction and fun, we act on it a bit more aggressively.  It was that 50’s, 60’s rock that seemed to capture the night.  And even if Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift found their way into our set that night, they could not hold a candle next to Chubby Checker or Dion.

I have seen some awesome dancing before.  I’ve watched standing backflips, breakdancing and moonwalking.  But the site of this dance floor was a scene from American Bandstand on it’s most hoppin’ night.  And that was enough to give us a few liberties in helping the crowd with some filler songs in between those “let’s-see-if-they-can-pull-it-off selections.”  And in case you’re wondering… yes, we pulled them off! 😉

Grand Hotel Delivers…

I’m not talking about the food.  At least not in the sense of being delivered.  They provided their own food and it was delicious.  Now, I may not have the palette of Gordon Ramsey, but I eat at enough 5-star hotels to recognize when the dish is good or exceptional.  This food was impeccable in it’s taste and also being perfectly suited for this kind of party (not over the top.)  This was a FUN night – not a charity function.  The food was beyond expectations in it’s perfectly suited way, and there was plenty of desert to follow it up.  So congrats to the those who provided the meal preparation.  As for the ambiance… just look at the background picture.  Need I say more?  Granted a single picture does not capture the full beauty of the room.  But I will tell you, it was spacious, accommodating, and had a layout that made sense for everyone.

gym-at-grand-hotelCome on! Just look at their gym.  This place is big enough to be it’s own business!  The hotel provided the same “beyond-expectations” surprise to every aspect of their service.  From the waiting room, the restaurant/bar, and even the stairwell!

Thank you North Central Companies, for having Felix and Fingers provide you with dueling piano entertainment.  We really enjoyed your group of people!  And I have to personally say, that I had a blast watching people dance that night.  I’m not sure when I might see moves like that again.  Keep on twistin’!

And for those of you at the Grand Hotel, we’d love to play at your hotel again.  Please pass our name and website along!  Anyone can get more information form our contact page.
