ORT! Here we come! This was the second time we were able to venture out to the Marriott for the ORT showcase in two years. The first year was just the original Felix (the one writing this post) and Fingers. After a two year absence, we decided to show up in style! Seemingly, a lot has happened in the past twelve months that made our set up look much different. For starters, we have happily added FOUR new players to our roster of duelers. The more the merrier! It also helps when the “more” in question can rock out on a grand piano.

Having everyone there made the day engaging, fun, and much less frantic than it otherwise could have been 🙂 We also brought our brand new, sparkly blue (that rhymed!) piano shells with us. This made our station look amazing (if I do say so myself), and it seed like lots of passerby’s agreed! If you’ve never been to ORT before, there’s just nothing like it. Hundreds of teenagers roaming through two large show rooms with their parents following closely behind. There are two type of parents at ORT. Those who have put on a bat/bar mitzvah before and kind of know the drill, and those who are experiencing this unique chaos for the first time. After loading in and setting up, we quickly started taking requests and answering questions from both parties, and the day was off to a good start 🙂

Most of the kids wanted to hear top 40 music, which was great, because that’s all we really played! Request after request came in for Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, John Mayer, Katy Perry again, and more. There were a few kids that surprisingly requested some of the oldies. One guy knew the entirety of piano man. We know, because he requested it three times and even sang karaoke for it.

The other vendors were a lot of fun to watch as well. We were happily introduced to a couple “blue guys” who offered to dance to our mad beats (an offer which I accepted without hesitation- see video below). Not long after, we spotted a couple vendors dressed as “foxes.” Of course, we had to call them over and play “What Does the Fox Say?” while they danced and made the various sounds. Lots of fun. Throughout the day, besides singing and dancing, we were able to speak with lots of parents about our show and answering the various questions they had.

ORT Questions

Common questions that came in were:

Q: Do you play games with the kids?

A: Yes. We know all about the bar/bat mitzvah games 🙂

Q: Do you bring your pianos with you? I don’t have pianos for you guys to play!

A: Yes. We either bring just keyboards, or keyboards with the piano shells.

Q: Do you take requests?

A: Yes, yes, and yes. Many of our shows are entirely request based. We can also learn any array of specific tunes you throw at us before the show. Just let us know!

Q: How far are you willing to travel?

A: However far we need to go 🙂 Seriously.

Q: Are you able to DJ before and after your show?

A: Absolutely. We do this all the time.

Will my guests have a blast with you guys?

A: You’re darn straight.

Ok, so I may have imagined that last one, but it’s still true!

It was a great event at the end of the day. We put on a fun show, we were able to meet a ton of new vendor friends, and we made lots of kids and parents laugh. Success! If you’ve begun the daunting process of finding fresh, different, and fun entertainment for your son or daughter’s mitzvah, we would LOVE a chance to speak with you. We’ll go over your timetable, needs, and budget in order to help you find a scenario that makes the most sense for everyone. Just try us!

Here are some fun videos from our time at ORT!
