In contrast to the last 3 weeks of corporate events for 300+ people, Dec 21st had Mike Sherman and Mike Potts playing 40 person private holiday parties as solo pianists.  If you’re looking for a solo pianist to lead sing-a-longs and get your friends entertained, there’s no better place to start than with a dueling pianos company like Felix and Fingers!

Mike Sherman (Felix) was sent out to make a Big Noise in Winnetka Illinois (get it?), meanwhile the other Mike (Fingers) had the joy of entertaining the royal family of Crystal Lake – Mayor Aaron Shepley and guests.

Fingers has played the Shepley Christmas Party since before he was even called Fingers, so it was a great homecoming of sorts to be invited back for another holiday party.  With Christmas Carol Singalong books in hand, the party was quickly up and running with people gathered around the piano singing standards like Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman, but also the lesser sung “Hard Candy Christmas” as made famous by Dolly Parton and “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”.  Of course, the usual Jimmy Buffett tunes had to be played, and there was even a Christmas Twerking moment in there compliments of Wrecking Ball and Blurred Lines.

Gather ‘Round for Carols!

Felix was leading the singing at a Christmas Caroling-Themed Christmas Party in Winnetka IL.  The kids at the party took the lead when it came to the carols, so “Frosty the Snowman” was sung about 20 times. A highlight of the evening was several of the boys singing four verses of “We Three Kings” from memory, having just performed it in a choir concert at school.  Just when the party was about the end, Felix changed the pace and did a quick rendition of Katy Perry’s “Roar,” since one of the 4th graders had been begging him to do it all night.  All of a sudden people were shouting out other tunes, and before he knew it, Felix had performed an extra two hours of non-Christmas tunes.  Have you ever seen an entire living room full of parents and kids doing the “Gangnam Style” dance in Santa hats?  It’s quite the scene!

Dueling pianos, or in this case, solo pianists can be a great fit for any sized event! It’s even the small intimate settings where we tend to have the most fun.  Christmas Parties and Holiday parties are obvious choices to have entertainment, but you can also consider Birthday parties, Anniversary events and Family Reunions to be great opportunities for piano entertainment.  We even do Singing Telegrams (though not the cheesy kind that requires a Monkey Costume)!

Pretzel Buttons!

I can’t help myself, but to who ever invented Pretzel Buttons: Thank You!  This dueling pianist lives on them, especially in December.  Potentially the best thing about being the last one to leave these parties is the fact that I am usually given a huge bag of Pretzel Buttons to take home with me.  Being a Solo Pianist is a sweet job.

Here’s a recipe!

Merry Christmas to All and to all a good night!
