Dueling Pianos can easily be an all ages show and it’s one of the reasons Felix and Fingers has established a national reputation for quality performances.  Forget the raunchy Vegas shows, chances are if you’re hosting an event, you’ll want something a bit more upscale than a bachelorette party staple.  This was the case for our most recent trip to Disney World in Orlando Florida.

Dueling at Disney!

Shades of Green Disney World

Inside the Lobby – see Mickey?!?

We were excited to get a call from the Shades of Green Disney World Resort to play for their upcoming jazz festival.  Remember, F&F actually started as a jazz duo, so it was a great fit.  Especially since they also wanted a family friendly Disney World appropriate dueling pianos show.

Shades of Green is a resort on the Disney property that is devoted to those who have served and are currently active military service members.  If you are a civilian you actually can not get a room at this resort, which I think is a very cool thing.

On a personal note, thank you to all who have served.  You make it possible for all the F&F members to make a living making music, and that is not something I plan to take for granted.

Shades of Green Jazz Fest in Disney World

The Shades of Green jazz fest is an annual event that they hold.  The Shades of Green staff “recruits” jazz ensembles both locally and nation wide.  This festival had multiple college ensembles, military ensembles, and obviously, dueling pianos.

One of my highlights of the event was that Dave was asked to sing “God Bless America” with the military band.  These impromptu guest appearances are what can really make our shows a lot of fun.  Above is his sound check with the band!

Jelly Rolls Disney World

The Performers at Jelly Rolls

What about Disney’s Jelly Rolls?

So those of you who have been to Disney World might be familiar with the popular dueling piano bar “Jelly Rolls”.  Of course, we had to go check them out!

Jelly Rolls was packed when we walked in, and as a dedicated dueling pianos bar, it’s probably the largest room where I’ve seen this concept work in a public setting.  Patrons were definitely into the show and having a great time – it’s always great to see experienced performers displaying a high level of ability.

The interesting part of Dueling Pianos in general is that there are so many different interpretations.  Company to company, state to state, everyone has their own version.  It’s what makes Felix and Fingers unique from Jelly Rolls and vica versa.  Jelly Rolls boasts high quality players who can really cater to the crazy crowd that they draw, they’re the perfect fit.  Meanwhile, F&F focuses on private events where the average age isn’t 2o-something years old.  But regardless of focus, if you’re ever at Disney, I couldn’t recommend Jelly Rolls any more highly…unless you really don’t like music or having fun.
